Project Overview
Nutrition
The project aims to set up self-run community kitchens at villages and provide supplementary nutrition (in addition to Mid-Day Meal and home meals) to the children of the villages by giving them a simple meal consisting of 300 ml of milk, 1 egg, and 1 banana every day. This will help to bridge the nutrition gap to a significant extent.
The menu will eventually evolve and add a few more food items after consultation with the Self-Help-Group women (Sahyog Sakhi).
As the daily meal of milk, egg, and banana will be provided ONLY to the school going children in a village, it will encourage children to attend schools (when the schools open), which will in turn help to reduce the dropouts. The effort will strengthen the outcomes of the Mid-Day Meal Program of Government of India.
The simple one-time meal will provide 314 calories daily to each child beneficiary. The meal will provide essential nutrients such as protein, sodium, potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, Cobalamin, and magnesium daily apart from fat and carbohydrates.

Santhusti - a Child Adoption project
This project of Mongia Green Foundation Aims to:
Provide supplementary nutrition to village children through a simple meal of egg, milk, and banana – essential foods which, unfortunately, most tribal children and the children from other economically backward sections of the population in the villages of Jharkhand and many other States miss in their daily meals.
Provide out-of-school tuition to tribal children as well as to the children from other economically backward sections of the population in the villages of Jharkhand to improve the overall learning outcome and thereby aiding in reducing school drop-outs.
Initially, the Project proposes to improve the nutritional status and quality of learning to reduce the dropouts of 50,000-70,000 tribal / underprivileged children from the villages around Giridih, Jharkhand, focusing on children in the age group of 6-14 years.
Phase by phase, the project will cover all the districts and villages of Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. The main cluster of Tribal population live in Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal lies in the Chotanagpur plateau and its fringes.

Education
Under the out-of-school tuition assistance scheme of the project, the primary focus will be on tutoring children on school subjects and developing soft skills. 12th passed candidates (for providing tuition to the children of class 1-5) and graduates (for providing tuition to the children of class 6-8) will be selected at village level as Tutors. The basic eligibility criteria will be 12th passed in Science/Arts/Commerce stream with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or graduation in Humanities, Commerce or Science with a minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
Mongia Green Foundation through it’s training partner will provide a 14-Day long ToT (Training of the Tutor) program to coach and mentor the selected Tutors in various aspects of teaching methodologies and soft skill development.
Post ToT, assessment, and certification, the Tutors will be assigned to provide tuition to the children in batches of 10 at a designated place thrice a week. There will be morning and afternoon batches to suite the convenience of the beneficiary children.

Outcomes
Assisted Learning
Assistance by trained tutors in an out-of-school setting to ensure appropriate learning of school curriculum throughout the primary school stage. The aim is to improve chances of better performance in school examinations and also attain learning outcomes.
Using learner-driven teaching methodologies, the out-of-school teaching assistance project will increase children’s interests in school subjects and thereby reduce chances of disengagement and eventual school drop-out rates.

Nutrition
Many of the children in tribal and rural communities suffer from malnourishment. Although the Mid-Day Meal scheme at schools fulfills a part of the daily requirement of calories and nutrients, school-going children require much more calories and nutrients to meet the daily requirements. For many children, Mid-Day Meal is the only wholesome meal they have in a day. Therefore the requirement of supplementary nutrition cannot be denied.
This project, by providing 314 calories and a range of essential nutrients daily (such as protein, vitamins, minerals, and fat) will help in improving the overall status of nutrition among the beneficiary children.

Empowerment
One of major impacts of the project will be women empowerment in rural communities. The women from Self Help Groups will be running the community kitchen set up under the project; they will supervise and manage food storage, food preparation, food packaging, and food distribution. They will also be assisting in the overall project implementation at village level. All women will be employed in the project and will be paid a monthly wage.
Another major impact of this project will be youth empowerment. 12th passed youths and graduate youths from villages and nearby towns will be recruited as Tutors and trained to off out-of-school tuition. All Tutors, employed in the project will be paid a monthly fee.
